Bank transfers, payment platforms, and fees compared — how to receive your earnings in Bangladesh without unexpected cuts.

Landing the client is half the work; the other half is getting paid without surprises. This guide compares the realistic ways to receive international payments in Bangladesh, with the fees and delays to expect. Rates and policies change — always confirm the current numbers with the provider before relying on them.
The main channels
| Channel | Typical fees | Speed | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marketplace escrow → bank | Platform fee + bank receiving charge | 2–5 days | Most freelancers' default |
| Wire transfer (SWIFT) | Sender + intermediary + receiving bank charges | 3–7 days | Larger direct-client invoices |
| Payment platforms (Payoneer, Wise) | Platform conversion/spread fees | 1–3 days | Recurring direct clients |
| Direct bank remittance | Remitting bank charges | 2–4 days | Clients who prefer banks |
Reading the fine print on fees
The advertised fee is rarely the whole cost. Three places money disappears: the conversion spread (the gap between the real exchange rate and the rate you are given), intermediary bank charges on SWIFT routes, and your own bank's receiving commission. Ask one clarifying question every time: "After all charges, exactly how much will arrive in my account?"
Records that save you later
Keep three things per payment: the invoice, the platform or bank receipt, and the encashment record from your bank. These make tax filing straightforward, support legitimate fund remittances, and serve as evidence if a client ever disputes a payment. Ten minutes of filing per payment is cheaper than reconstructing a year of records in a panic.
Practical setup checklist
- A dedicated bank account for freelance inflows, separate from salary.
- One payment platform account set up and verified before you need it — verification can take days.
- An invoice template with your payment details and terms on it.
- A simple ledger (even a spreadsheet) logging every invoice, receipt, and fee.
